4 Paws for Alex

We decided to get Alex a seizure response service dog from 4 Paws for Ability in Ohio (www.4pawsforability.org) . We decided to go through 4 paws for many reasons. First of all, they have a great reputation with a high success rate. They are one of the few places that will place service dogs with children, and they give you the ability to fund-raise your own money instead of waiting on list for a "free" dog that could take up to FIVE years to get.

Our hope for Alex's service dog is to give him more independence as he gets older. Since many of Alex's seizure are unpredictable, someone must be by his side 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Alex also has the tendency to run off, and his dog will be able to track him. Most importantly, the dog will be a companion to Alex during the scary times that all children with a chronic illness face.

Alex got his seizure service dog in September!!!!
